The Necklace Lesson

 

1. Students will read "The Necklace" on page 536  of their text. 
2. Students will take notes on the story using Kami

3. Students will Answer All 9 questions on page 541

4. Students will turn their questions in to turnitin.com

THE NECKLACE

Guy de Maupassant
1850-1893
One of the best known short story writers in the world
His stories capture surprise endings and sometimes unfortunate twists
Raised in Northern France
As a young man, he served in the Franco-Prussian War
(This experience appears in several of his stories)

After the war, he took a job as a governmentclerk
He devoted his spare time to writing
He became rich and famous
Later his health declined and he suffered from depression

  • rueful   adj.  feeling sorrow or regret Her thoughtless comment soon made her rueful .
  • resplendent   adj.  shining brightly The winner’s face was resplendent as he accepted the prize.
  • disheveled   adj.  untidy Val’s disheveled hair showed he had overslept.
  • profoundly   adv.  deeply We were all profoundly moved by the long-lost brothers’ reunion.

Write a diary entry from Madame Loisel's point of view, describing Madame Louisel's reactions to the loss.  (You are the voice of the Narrator's mind / inner thoughts)
