THE NECKLACE

I. Background:
Guy de Maupassant
1850-1893
One of the best known short story writers in the world
His stories capture surprise endings and sometimes unfortunate twists
Raised in Northern France
As a young man, he served in the Franco-Prussian War
(This experience appears in several of his stories)

After the war, he took a job as a governmentclerk
He devoted his spare time to writing
He became rich and famous
Later his health declined and he suffered from depression

3. STUDENTS WILL WRITE A DIARY FROM THE MAIN CHARACTER'S EXPERIENCE: (TYPE ON A GOOGLE DOC)- to be completed in class

You may use first person since you are writing from the point of view of the main character. 

PROMPT: (BEGIN WITH-      DEAR DIARY,    )

Write a diary entry from Madame Loisel's point of view, describing Madame Louisel's reactions to the loss.  (You are the voice of the Narrator's mind / inner thoughts)

-You should have her talk about specific textual/ contextual evidence and express her feelings as "she" discusses the reactions to the loss.

-Toward the end of the essay, you should also have her discuss her personal  "denouement".

When you are finished, run your diary through Grammarly

-Turn your essay/ diary entry into www.turnitin.com by the end of the period  MONDAY, 10/28 by the end of class.
